A Dog and her Duck

Animal lovers are a special breed of humans, generous of spirit, full of empathy, perhaps a little prone to sentimentality, and with hearts as big as a cloudless sky. John Grogan

My husband and I have a love for dogs that only few people share. Like I have said before, we love our dogs more than is probably normal.  They get the royal treatment around this house, that's for sure!

I had never thought of Marley as any kind of model, but sitting there sipping my beer, I was aware that maybe he held the secret for a good life. Never slow down, never look back, live each day w/ adolescent verve and spunk and curiosity and playfulness.  John Grogan

Our third born is an ADHD black lab that we refer to as "the beast" around here.  Her real name is Roxy and she is a crazy water-loving dog!  She loves any body of water that she can get into, be it a puddle in the street, a bathtub full of water meant for her owner, or a swimming pool or lake.  She is a freak when it comes to water, it makes her unable to think about anything else, all she can think about is how quickly she can get wet.

One of our good friends lets us take our crazy dog to her pool a few times every summer.  It is there that she has a ball with her duck.  The last time we went to play in the pool with her, we let her in the backyard and went in the house to get a drink.  When we finally venture out to the pool area, our precious dog has already been in and out of the pool, wasting no time and refusing to wait for us.

The pool is Roxy's happy place and I love seeing her so happy!  She has so much fun splashing and laying out in the water and as her mom, it's so fun to watch.  And as you can see, we love our crazy, psychotic, water-loving dog, she has a special place in our heart and regardless of how crazy she is, we wouldn't have it any other way around here!

A dog doesn't care if you're rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his.  John Grogan

The Quotes from this post are from John Grogan's book Marley and Me.  If you have never read this book, I challenge you to do so, it is excellent.  Please have tissues handy!
